Xda-Developers | Xiaomi launches ShareSave, an e-commerce platform to let people buy tech products from China

When we talk about Xiaomi, the first product that comes to mind are the smartphones. But Xiaomi is much more than just a smartphone company. The Chinese giant perceives itself as the creator of an ecosystem, similar to how Samsung and Apple perceive themselves. In its own words, Xiaomi is "an internet company with smartphones and smart hardware connected by an IoT platform at its core".

Products from the Xiaomi ecosystem have gradually made their way outside of mainland China to other key regions officially, but the fact still remains that most of Xiaomi's product portfolio remains restricted to China only. You either wait for Xiaomi to bring interesting products officially to your region (which can be months after their release in China, if at all), or you can purchase them from unofficial resellers (which is unreliable and often expensive).

Xiaomi has now launched a brand new cross-border e-commerce platform called ShareSave. ShareSave aims to offer users outside of mainland China a convenient and cost-effective way to purchase ecosystem products from partner IoT and lifestyle companies. The platform offers a selection of products that are crafted by Xiaomi's partner ecosystem companies, with products ranging from mobile peripherals, smart hardware and lifestyle products.

ShareSave also makes use of "social e-commerce", giving users an option to bring in other purchasers and avail discounts for all involved. There are three kinds of purchase modes, allowing users to avail discounts:

  1. Pair-up – Buy with a friend to get an exclusive discount for both.
  2. Drop – Up to 100% price drop when enough friends and family join the drop group.
  3. Kickstart – Contribute $0.2 to back your favorite products and get up to 10 times the reward.

You can purchase the products without these social discounts too, so you are not forced to spam your friends and family just to save a few bucks.

ShareSave is currently available in India now, with plans to expand to other markets in the future. Some products available on ShareSave right now are Mi x Wiha Precision Screwdriver, Yeelight LED Light Bulb, Soocas Sonic Electric Toothbrush X1 Lite and more.
